How Long Does a Roof Replacement Take?

Most homeowners are surprised: a full roof replacement usually takes just 1–2 days. Here’s what fills those days.

Step by Step

  1. Day 0, Delivery & prep. Materials are delivered, landscaping and siding are protected, and the crew plans access and safety.
  2. Morning, Tear-off. Old shingles come off, one layer or several. The decking is inspected; rotted boards are replaced before anything new goes on.
  3. Midday, Underlayment system. Ice & water shield (critical in NJ), synthetic underlayment, drip edge and ventilation components are installed.
  4. Afternoon, Shingle installation. Starter strips, field shingles, ridge vent and cap shingles go on, installed to manufacturer spec so your warranty is valid.
  5. Final, Flashing, cleanup & walkthrough. Chimneys and walls are re-flashed, the yard gets a magnetic nail sweep, and we walk the finished roof with you.
  6. What can add time. Steep or complex roofs, multiple old layers, decking repairs, slate or metal systems, and NJ weather. Your written estimate includes your specific timeline.
